Amazon says this Opteka battery grip is compatible with the Nikon D3000. That’s just not so unless I’m missing out on some extra trick. In order for the Opteka Professional Battery Grip to work with the Nikon D3000 I have to remove the battery access lid on the bottom of the camera body. If that’s what I have to do then I need instruction and some kind of certificate that my camera’s warranty is not voided by the removal process.
So…what’s the deal, please? Something’s not right. Will Amazon take this battery grip back? I bet it will.

Once I figured it out then it works but it does not work when your lighting is not prestine. On another note, first level customer support needs more tact with dealing with customers. Another person called me to sort out an earlier review that I filed regarding the shoddy customer service.

I really did want to like this battery pack/grip. While the battery pack seems to be a great idea, there were enough “issues” to personally discourage me from keeping it.
In particular, the various vertical shutter function “issues” mentioned by all of the reviewers just caused me a lot more headaches than the other reviewers seemed to have. Having to change shutter modes when going from horizontal to vertical was a real pain with action shots. And the fact that the shutter button doesn’t have the same functionality as the on-camera button constantly caused me too many problems when trying to do quick shots (with many unfocused photos the result).
The lack of charger than charges both batteries at once was also a pain. While having the 2 batteries is great for extended shooting, when it comes to recharging them you have to do it one-at-a-time with the Nikon single battery charger (which can leave you with 1 charged and 1 uncharged if you forget to change them) which means you need to buy a 2 battery charger (the only ones I can find also come with 2 batteries which ends up an added expense I didn’t want. I really wish the pack came with a charger of it’s own).
An additional, though minor issue for me was the lack of a snug fit on both packs I tried (sent the first one back, but the second had small gaps too).
The fact that I currently am not using any heavy lenses (I have the Nikon 28-55 & 55-200 zooms), and that I happen to like the small, light-weight package of my D60, along with the above mentioned issues made me decide to return the pack. 47th Street Photo was great about the refund.

Works OK. But it wont fit all the way to my D5000. I don’t really care about the plastic feeling that others say, but I am more concerned about it look.

First I want to say that I only ordered this two days ago- it arrived today!!!!! I have read all of the reviews on this item and most people tend to like it. I have a Nikon D3000 and this grip fits and looks like it was made specifically for my camera- the finish matches perfectly. I have read reviews where some people were not happy with the vertical shutter release, however on the D3000, I have no problems- i can shoot as many pictures vertically without having to go into the menu. This grip gives my camera such a professional look and I am looking forward to the extended battery life. Though it doesnt come with a charger for the batteries they charge just fine in the charger that came with my camera. Taking off the battery door to attatch the battery grip was a piece of cake!! I will definately order from this seller again and I recommend this product to anyone with the Nikon D3000 as that is the camera I use.
