Sigma Telephoto 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF
Sigma Telephoto 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of the new Macro 70mm F2.8 EX DG lens. This medium telephoto macro lens is ideal for both digital SLR cameras and 35mm film SLR cameras. The 70mm focal length gives an equivalent field of view as our popular 105mm macro lens when used on digital SLR cameras with an APS-C size image sensor. The design of this lens makes it suitable for taking pictures in all situations from infinity to 1:1 macro, both with natural light conditions or flash. A Special Low Dispersion (SLD) lens and two high refractive index SLD lenses provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations and produce an exceptional level of optical performance. Sigmas super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting, and helps create a natural color balance. The floating focus system provides extremely high optical performance from infinity to 1:1 Macro. A Focus Limiter Switch in incorporated on the lens, improving the speed and accuracy of autofocus by limiting the focus range. A screw-in lens hood is included for convenient use of circular polarizing filters.
Customer Review: Very sharp lens works great on D90
I got this lens mainly for shooting artwork for a documentation project, although I expect I will end up using it for a lot more. It may be the sharpest lens I have. The autofocus worked great, and I had no problems with the focus seeking at distances of 2 to 6 feet. I did learn right away that the depth of field is very shallow unless it is cranked down quite a bit, so I switched to manual and set the f stop and shutter speed myself, but I think the D90 can focus about as well as I can so I let it take care of that. The bokeh is indeed very nice. I highly recommend this lens.
Customer Review: Tack Sharp Fantastic Lens.
I have had the Sigma 70mm F2.8 Macro since January 08 and have taken over a thousand images with it. This lens is super sharp. I personally like the 70mm focal lenth, this may vary with different photographers but I like to get really close to the subjects I photograph so you will have to think about that before you buy. Popular Photography Magazine stated “in practical terms this lens is faultless” and I agree. It’s super sharp, the autofocus may hunt a little but this is a common problem with almost all macro lenses. It has a focus limiter switch that comes in handy to prevent the hunting. I can not say enough about this lens, it’s not the cheapest lens but it may be the best for the money. The build quality is excellent and it looks really good on my camera. It also makes a great portrait lens with perfect bokah. I just love this lens and you will to if you buy it.

PROS: Low price, clear images, wide apertureCONS: Lower quality housingRECOMMENDED FOR: Beginning and intermediate photographersI was extremely impressed with this lens from the first time I attached it to my camera. I originally got it to take better low-light, higher-speed indoor pictures, which it does fantastically well. The wide aperture is also excellent for taking shallow depth of field photos. The fixed focal length makes me try harder to compose shots (because I have to move my feet rather than the lens) resulting in better photos. The low price makes it a low-risk investment. I’ve found myself leaving this lens on my camera when it’s in the bag and using it more than my other two (Canon 18-55mm and 55-250mm).As other reviewers have pointed out, the housing for the lens is of lower quality than, say, my other two lenses. However, it is not as flimsy as those reviewers would have you believe. If you treat the lens and camera as though they were expensive, high-end equipment rather than toys, you will not have problems. If you’re an advanced/professional photographer, you probably aren’t even reading this review. If you’re a beginning or intermediate photographer who is looking for an inexpensive departure from your existing zoom lenses or looking to expand your horizons, this is an excellent lens for you to try.For further reading on this type of lens, I recommend you check out:
