I had placed an order for this lens for $439.90 with Adorama back in Nov 2008. This item was back ordered and I had to wait for 3 months before I finally cancelled and also watched the price increase substantially. I picked up the Nikon 50mm 1.8D for $109 as an alternative with which I am very happy. I do not value paying such a high price for the 1.4G, no doubt this is an amazing lens but not worth paying over 3 times more. As I write this review the price of the 1.4G has increased to $500. Simply not worth it. Get the 1.8D instead.

As we all know this 50 mm F1.4 is best breed lens, other detail review I have not done yet but looking at first instance of my lens and taking couple of shots, it looks great. Its costly though. It comes with hood.

Good fast focus, depth of field is as expected at f1.4. The speed and fixed length have given me more opportunities but have also made me think a bit more about the way I have been shooting with wider (17-35,28-70) lenses.
The only thing that could be “better” than this 50mm would be a 35mm f1.4 on my D300 for an ~50mm effective FOV.

Good basic prime lens. Bought it because it is a required/suggested/recommended lens for many photo classes & exercises. Forces you to get closer to your object. Is closest to “human eye” observation. Not an expsensvie lens: I read great reviews on this lens.
